Oman, August 2005
This is the diary and gallery of my trip to Oman in August 2005. Click on the pictures in the text for larger versions. Some pictures were taken by me, and some by Taeko.
- Day 1 - Arrival, the pool and the beach
A long flight from London, arrival in the Muscat night, then a day in the cool of the pool and
the heat of the beach. - Day 2 - Dust and water
We set out on an off-road adventure, past ancient ruins and beaches, to swim
in an oasis of green, and watch turtles in the moonlight. - Day 3 - Turtles, boats and boys
An early morning on the turtle beach, and then more off-roading
with a car full of youngsters.
- Day 4 - Dolphins and turtles
A morning spent looking for dolphins, fish and turtles in the waters off the
coast.
- Day 5 - Camels and desert
Eight hours on a camel across the burning sands to a remote desert camp under
a million stars.
- Day 6 - Camels and sands
Back on the camels, then off-road through the sands to the Bedouin camp. A speeding
taxi takes us back to Muscat.
- Day 7 - Markets and hotels
Ancient and modern: from the historic souk in Muttrah to a shining five-star hotel.
- Day 8 - Back to the pool
Back to the pool for a day in the water. A chance to relax before the long haul home.
