Travels

winging it
On September 18th I flew from Manchester airport to Toronto, with a short stop at Glasgow to pick up some more passengers. After a few days staying with Patrick Brown, giving a talk to some statisticians at the University of Toronto, and getting wet at Niagara Falls, I jetted off to Victoria on Vancouver Island for the Free and Open Source Software for Geospatial '07 conference (FOSS4G 07). I had a couple of free days after that before taking the boat down to Seattle to see Dave, and relax a bit in the Puget Sound area. Then it was a night flight to Boston to stay with Rebecca Watson there, but first we headed north to see the colours of a New Hampshire fall season. I then had a couple of days in historic Boston before flying back to Manchester on October 11th and getting the train home.

Photographs

In total I took about 1100 photographs. I went through my rechargable batteries and had to buy some new non-rechargable ones (but they were cheap in Canada!). I also discovered my camera had a problem with 2GB cards which really needed a firmware update, but I didn't want to muck that up and have a non-functioning camera for the trip. Instead I had to make sure I didn't get too near half-full on the 2GB cards before swapping them out.

Diary

This website is both a diary and photo-gallery. You'll find (some of) my thoughts and impressions of the trip as well as an edited selection of the photographs I brought back.

You can either start at Toronto and click through each location, or use the postcard image links to jump to a place.
